DRUG LIABILITY
Many Americans are affected by Type 2 diabetes and must take prescription medication to help control their glucose (blood sugar) levels. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on September 23, 2010 that it will significantly restrict the use of the diabetes drug Avandia (rosiglitazone) to patients with Type 2 diabetes who cannot control their diabetes on other medications.
The FDA’s restrictions were in response to data that suggests an elevated risk of cardiovascular events in patients treated with Avandia. Heart attacks and strokes are some of the potential side effects that may be caused by the medication. See the FDA news release: http://www.fda.gov/newsevents/newsroom/pressannouncements/UCM226975.htm for further for further details on the restricted use of Avandia.
