Zimmer NexGen Knee Implant

Recent reports have linked certain components of the Zimmer NexGen knee replacement system to premature failure. Patients have complained of difficultly standing or walking, and joint pain from the loosening of implants. According to two highly regarded orthopedic surgeons who presented their findings in March 2010, at the National Convention of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, of 108 implanted NexGen devices, 36% of were loose, and over 8% of patients required a second surgery due to loosening and pain. Prominent surgeons, including former investigators working as consultants to Zimmer, have pushed for the manufacturer to recall the Zimmer NexGen device.
