By Vicki Kelly, daughter of the late Neils Ingstrup, a victim
of mesothelioma, who was exposed to asbestos products at Anaconda/Raritan
Copper Works, Perth Amboy, New Jersey and Anchor, Glass:
"The day I learned what "mesothelioma"
was, became one of the worst days of my life. The day I lost
my father to mesothelioma was the single worst day of my life.
That word may not mean anything to a lot of people, but 'cancer'
and 'asbestos' in the same sentence spell out the same thing.
The pain and suffering my father had to endure was horrendous.
Not being able to breath, excruciating pain, sickness from the
chemotherapy treatments, total loss of his physical abilities
and independence, the list goes on. It was not only a living
nightmare for him, but for his family as well. We had to sit
by and witness all this without being able to change a thing.
It was frustrating and heart breaking."
"We did what we could to make him as comfortable as possible.
It just wasn't enough. We couldn't do the impossible, make him
well again. If he could have turned back time, to the times
he came in contact with asbestos, he would have. He told me
that when he knew he was not going to recover, he couldn'tspeak
above a whisper by then. His painful ordeal lasted 5 months,
from diagnosis to death. This is typical of the disease. It
completely stole his life away from him, and away from me, his
only child. We were so very close, I miss him desperately. I
have to say that my life isn't the same without him. He was
taken from me much too soon. A wonderful man's life cut way
too short, and there was nothing he could have done to change
things. He was never told that asbestos could have posed a danger
to his health."
Legal Help from Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer
"I contacted Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer when he was
first diagnosed in the hospital. I hadn't realized at the time
that they had an entire department dedicated to people with
illnesses like my father. I am very happy that we decided to
stay with them, as they are the best at what they do. No one
has better knowledge about this disease and its cause. Everyone
has been so gracious and caring and more than willing to answer
any questions I have had. And they have worked their hardest
to make sure everyone responsible for my father's illness compensates
us for taking him away from us and for all our pain and suffering.
I only wish my father could have been here to see these companies
pay for their deadly mistakes and incompetence."
